Description

The Rovinj archipelago has as many as 22 islands, islets and rocks. The most famous among them are certainly the island of Sv. Andrije, also known as the Red Island and the Island of St. Catherine. These two islands are both the largest and the only ones that are inhabited during the summer period.

Island of St. Andrije was owned by Lord Hütterot and was supposed to be part of the climatic health resort Cap Aureo. As in the Zlatni Rto forest park, a variety of Mediterranean and exotic species have been planted on Crveno otok.

Island of St. Katarina was also owned by a nobleman, Count Milewski, who, fed up with his turbulent life, sought peace on that Rovinj island. His desire was similar to that of Lord Hütteort. He wanted to create his own paradise on earth and planned to turn the island into a glamorous tourist destination.

It was the rivalry between Lord Hütterot and Count Milewski that made Rovinj a desirable tourist destination with one of the most beautiful forest environments. Although Count Milewski did not want to share his island with the inhabitants of Rovinj, today you can visit both islands.
